Was Katrina Kaif the first choice for Dear Zindagi?

We all know Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt are the newest BFF’s in Tinsel Town as the warmth and comfort they shared in each other’s presence on Neha Dhupia’s chat show, BFF’S with Vogue was pretty evident. In one of the segments, when asked about the one film of Alia Katrina would’ve loved to be a part of, she, without thinking, said Dear Zindagi.

Now, if sources are to be believed, Katrina was indeed the first choice for the film. Both Gauri Shinde (the director) and Karan Johar (the co-producer) were keen to have her on board as the leading lady. However, it was Shah Rukh Khan, who had an extended cameo in the film, who was reluctant to have her cast.

The reason is being cited as given the emotional depth and psyche of the character of Kaira, portrayed magnificently by Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh thought Katrina didn’t have the acting chops to pull off such a dramatic character with ease.

In response, Johar somehow reportedly convinced Katrina that they may not be able to collaborate for this film but never mentioned Shah Rukh’s name. Although now Miss Kaif is working with King Khan in Zero, sources add that it’s not a role that requires a lot out of her.

Let’s see what Katrina does in this mega-ambitious and much-awaited film.
