KriArj Entertainment, that was soon establishing its position in the industry as The Next Big Thing, with three back-to-back hits, featuring Akshay Kumar, is now in the news for all the wrong reasons. First, they had a fallout with John Abraham over their film, Parmanu, followed by them backing out of Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath. Now, reports suggest they are yet to pay dues to the technicians of their own film, Padman.
This Akshay Kumar-starrer released on the 9th of Feb and opened to some encouraging, some lukewarm reviews and performed satisfyingly well at the ticket windows. However, given the rigorous promotional campaign, the news with Padmaavat clash and the much talked about Padman Challenge, a lifetime collection of 78 crores was pretty underwhelming. Having said that, it was still a profitable venture for the makers.
Talking about profits, it was also reported how the leading man, Akshay Kumar, took away over 70% of the film’s profits and KriArj was left with approx. 16 crores only. Now, it’s being believed that the production house is yet to pay to their technicians, including ace cinematographer, P.C. Sreeram, the genius cinematographer who has collaborated with stalwarts like Mani Ratnam and S. Shankar down south.
This is surely not a good time for both Prerna Arora and Arjun N. Kapoor as their production house is only surrounded by negative news. Let’s see what the future holds for KriArj.
