#THROWBACKTHURSDAYS: When Bollywood supported Sanjay Dutt

It was in April 1993, when Sanjay Dutt’s life turned upside down, as he was accused of keeping illegal weapons at his house given to him by Abu Salem, which included an AK-56. He was subsequently arrested under the provisions laid down by the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act.

On the 6th of July, 1994, the entire film fraternity came out in support of Sanjay Dutt and stood outside the Thane Jail, when his bail application was cancelled and he was re-arrested. From Dilip Kumar to the late Yash Chopra and Amrish Puri to Shah Rukh Khan, everyone stood by the actor during his most difficult time. Some other names also included Anupam Kher, Saira Banu, the late Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor. Alas, that was one of the last few occasions when we saw such a unity in the industry. Today, at best, they would tweet or post a picture on Instagram of any filmmaker or actor who’s going through a rough patch.

Coming to Sanjay Dutt, he has completed his five-year imprisonment and is finally doing back-to-back films, which include Torbaaz, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3, Kalank, Panipat and last but not the least, Munna Bhai 3. As far as his much awaited biopic, Sanju is concerned, it’s all set to release on the 29th of June, 2018 and as we reported earlier, the trailer will be out on the 30th of May, 2018.
