Was Sonakshi the first choice for Toilet: Ek Prem Katha?

Kya aapko pata hai kyu Sonakshi Sinha ne kaha ‘NO’ Toilet: Ek Prem Katha ki heroine ban ne ke liye? If yes, then comment below and let us know!

The lead pair of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar is winning hearts throughout India and is making us all the more curious for the release of the film.

But, did you know that Akshay wasn’t the first choice for the protagonist?

Before the script made it’s way to Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha was approached to play the protagonist. But, the actress, instead of choosing to do a social satire, went on to do Noor. Soon after which, the script came by the way of Akshay Kumar once the script was re-mastered to make it all look like from the perspective of the male protagonist.

A source says “The film is inspired by true incidents as the tagline in the trailer says. One of the incidents is that of Priyanka Bharti, the 19 year-old-girl who left her in-laws house two days after her marriage because they did not have a toilet. She gave rise to a revolution in her small village in UP and went back to her in-laws’ house once the toilet was built. It was a strong female-centric role, but Sonakshi chose Noor instead. After that, the makers decided to look at making the film from the male perspective, where- in the hero would drive the initiative to build toilets in the village and bring back his wife. That’s how Akshay came on board.”

The government has decided to make the movie entertainment tax free in all the BJP run states. A government official was quoted saying “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is not merely a film, but also a tool for social reform. And, this film deserves to be seen by all. Therefore, it deserves to be made tax free.”

How many of you are looking forward to the film? Let us know!
