Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero vs. Yash’s KGF – The box-office battle

Shah Rukh Khan’s most awaited film of the year ‘Zero’ and the Kannada period drama ‘KGF’ released on the same day and were expected to make the most of the holiday season and set the box-office on fire. Although it was a risk for any film to release alongside ‘Zero’ and the reason is quite obvious, no one messes with the Badshah of Bollywood, but still, the makers of KGF were adamant to release it on the same day. So in an epic encounter at the box-office, which film managed to emerge victorious?

Made on an approximate budget of 200 crores INR, ‘Zero’ is currently struggling at the box-office despite extensive promotions and widest release in over 4000 screens across India. On the first day, the film managed to collect 20.14 crores and on the weekend it could manage to add only 39 crores, taking its total to 59.07 crores. Clearly, one of the biggest films of 2018 turned out to be a disappointment. The film might have suffered due to the mixed reviews wherein it was criticized for its weak story and screenplay. Trade analysts are predicting an upward growth with Christmas around the corner, but will it be able to emerge as the winner at the box-office?

On the other hand, the Kannada magnum opus ‘KGF’ starring Yash has a slight edge over ‘Zero’, impossible to believe right? But, yes that’s what the numbers suggest. The film earned 22.40 crore on its opening day and the pan India collections over the weekend suggests that it has managed to beat ‘Zero’ with over 59.41 crores. The audience is appreciating the storyline and there is a positive word of mouth publicity for ‘KGF’ and it is expected to earn more as Christmas approaches.

With ‘KGF’ emerging as a winner at the box-office, it is now clear that content has been the king in 2018.
