Rishi Kapoor: The right guy at the wrong time in the Indian film industry!

It seems like the evergreen actor Rishi Kapoor is disappointed to be the right guy at the wrong time in Indian cinema. The 64-year-old-actor played different characters and had a varied career right from 70’s old formula to the post 2000’s realistic genre. Regarding this, he says, “I came into films when there was action. When I retired it was romantic period. The credit for lasting long in that action-oriented era goes to me.”

He further stated, “I had to chart a complete career after ‘Bobby’ (1973). But then I was slotted as just a romantic hero even as the industry was dominated by action heroes like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, who had an angry young man image. I have been the right guy at the wrong time.”

At Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet last evening Rishi Kapoor also mentioned about the old pattern followed in the films in the early 70’s. It was either rich-boy-poor-girl or vice-versa. Every actor of that era would do four films having a similar lost and found theme. He also signed covers of his new book ‘Khullam Khulla:Rishi Kapoor Uncensored stating that “Our audiences those days were very forgiving unlike the present times and did not question. I wish I were younger now.”

Acknowledging the audience regarding new era films he said, “intelligent, commercial cinema which can be enjoyed in good theatres with popcorn.” It also shows that Rishi Kapoor is very proud of his son Ranbir Kapoor for portraying different shades on screen.

The man with the wrong timing in Bollywood has turned out to be quite a sensation with his book!
