We were shocked when the so called sanskaari ex-CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani presented himself as the distributor for Raai Laxmi’s upcoming film, Julie 2, within less than a month of him leaving the seat.
Then, all we wanted to see was the face-off between Pahlaj’s film and the CBFC. But, quite surprisingly, the film was granted an Adult certificate with ZERO cuts!
Although that says a lot of good things about the current chairperson, Prasoon Joshi, what really made us angry was THIS statement from Pahlaj ji right after the film was left untouched.
He said, “This is just what I had hoped for. If I was still the CBFC chairperson I’d have given Julie 2 an ‘Adults’ certificate with no cuts. It is a clean Adults film for adult members of a family. Though it’s a film on an adult subject—the exploitation of strugglers and newcomers in Bollywood—the film has no nudity, no skin show, and no double-meaning dialogues. Like I said it is a family film for adults and the CBFC has done the right thing.”
Wait a minute. First of all, this is coming from a person who was against the word “Intercourse” in Jab Harry Met Sejal. Secondly, WHAT IS A FAMILY FILM FOR ADULTS? Either a film can be seen with family or not. There is no middle path. Mr. Nihalani, please stop inventing new genres for your own convenience. Thirdly, there is more skin show and double meaning dialogues in your trailer itself than you have ever allowed in your term. Well, CBFC has done the right thing. They have shown that they allow freedom of expression. You should learn a thing or two.
Perhaps this wasn’t a place where Karma could diss Pahlaj Nihalani just yet.
What’s going to happen next? Let’s wait and watch.
