When Kader Khan lost a film for not calling Amitabh Bachchan ‘Sir’!

The late Kader Khan, a prolific writer and an actor par excellence, contributed to a major chunk of Cinema the Hindi film world produced in the late 70’s and the whole of 80’s. His seamless dialogue writing and meticulous understanding of the pulse of the audience led to some timeless gems like Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie, Laawaris and Himmatwala, to name a few. A majority of them starred Amitabh Bachchan as the hero. But what happens when fame strikes one of them and he surrounds himself with illusion and disillusioned people?

In a video that has gone viral on the Internet, Khan recalled an incident when he was asked to refer to Bachchan as Sir. He said, “Mere liye to woh Amit hai.” He left the film because he wasn’t ready to accept this request of the makers. The film in question here is the 1992 Mukul Anand directorial, Khuda Gawah. Take a look:-

He also left Manmohan Desai’s 1988 Ganga Jamuna Saraswati for reasons still unknown.

This revelation indeed comes as a shock! For all those who admired Mr. Bachchan’s humility, one could only say don’t always trust what you see.
