Salman Khan the Superstar has a majority of the times overpowered Salman Khan the actor. There’s a subtle and sensitive side to his otherwise smouldering and scorching persona. Alas, in the greed to cater to a wider audience, he sacrifices coherence for commerce. His last outing, Race 3, was a victim of the same. It turned out to be more over-the-top than larger-than-life, and in all the wrong ways.
Films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan have shown what he can do to a character if in the hands of the right role and the right filmmaker. One of them was directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who now directs him for the third time in his next period drama, Bharat. Given the theme of the film, the makers have rightly released the teaser on the eve of the Republic Day.
Khan tackles multiple physical transformations and prosthetic, something the actor, or should we say the star, detested and despised till now. As stated above, if he keeps his apprehensions and arrogance aside, he can weave magic to his characters. And Bharat seems another step into an attempt to put up a performance.
