Everyone knows by now that Kalank narrates the tale of India before its independence and partition and is based in the era of the early 1940’s. Now, if reports are to be believed, the film will capture the battle of sex workers and blacksmiths against the British Raj. Varun Dhawan will apparently don the role of a Muslim blacksmith from Lahore; Alia Bhatt will play one of the dancers trained under Madhuri Dixit, who, as we reported a few days ago, will play a courtesan again, 17 years after Devdas.
Sanjay Dutt is playing a king, Sonakshi Sinha a gypsy woman, just like Preity Zinta from The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy, Aditya Roy Kapur will portray an artisan and reports suggest he’s Varun’s brother in the film. All in all, Kalank seems to be one of the most ambitious and lavishly mounted movies to come out of Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandsons.
The film is all set to release on the 19th of April, 2019.
