Shah Rukh Khan and Abhijeet Bhattacharya were the inseparable actor-singer duo of the 90’s. Abhijeet was known as SRK’s voice when the actor started his journey in Hindi Cinema. From Anjaam to DDLJ to Yes Boss to Baadshah, there was hardly any film of the actor he wasn’t a part of. However, after Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, Abhijeet decided never to sing for SRK again! He spoke about the issue he had with him six years ago and somehow the topic resurfaced recently at the India Today Summit.
Talking about him, Abhijeet said, “Mera kaam tha superstar banana mere awaz se. Till the time I sang for Shah Rukh, he was a rockstar. When I stopped singing for him – it was me who refused to sing for him – he came down to Lungi Dance.” And then he spoke at length why he chose not sing for the actor again. “Spotboys, assistant hair stylist, assistant dress maker – they credited everybody in the casting except the singers. I don’t know why our filmmakers never give singers due credit. During the end credits of Main Hoon Na, the singers’ names appeared right at the end. Worst still, segments were shot with the chaiwalas and dressmen, but not with singers. My family saw the film and felt betrayed. The same happened with Om Shanti Om. And here I am… Shah Rukh Khan’s voice! I conveyed my disappointment to Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.”
And then he slammed Salman Khan for a reason that was the most heated topic of debates and discussions back in 2016 after the Uri Attacks. He said, “Why does Salman Khan only get Pakistani singers to sing songs in his films? Are Indian singers not good enough to sing in his movie? Pakistani artists need to be restricted from working in the Indian film industry. One one side these Pakistani’s are killing our soldiers and on the other side Salman is hellbent on giving opportunities to Pakistani talent only ?”
Both SRK and Salman are yet to respond to these statements and it seems unlikely they even will!
