Nandita Das has started working on her upcoming Bollywood venture titled ‘Manto’. The film is based on the life of Indo-Pakistani writer Saddat Hassan Manto’s life. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be playing the role of the late poet but it seems like Nandita is signing more power-packed performers for her special project.
Shabana Azmi has joined the star cast of the film. She will be essaying the role of musician and singer Jaddanbhai. Shabana’s character Jaddanbhai was the mother of renowned yesteryear actress Nargis. Since she plays the role of a singer on screen, it seems like Nandita Das wanted Shabana to sing for real in the film. This is not the first time Azmi is going to lend her beautiful voice for a film. In her previous Bengali film titled Sonata, directed by Aparna Sen, Shabana sang two Rabindranath classics ‘Aaji Jharer Raate’ and ‘Sokhi Andhare’.
The actress is also excited about the Jennifer Reeder’s Signature Move in which she plays a mother obsessed with her daughter’s marriage.
