Kapil Sharma’s tweet to PM Modi backfires

A few days ago Kapil Sharma made headlines when he tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi slamming him and his government for corruption in the country. He even sarcastically asked the PM in a tweet, “Yeh hai aapke achhe din?”. The star comedian had alleged that a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officer had asked him for a Rs 5 lakhs bribe to grant him permission to construct his new office. Maharahstra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stepped in and assured Kapil that action will be taken against the officer.

But now it looks like the ace comedian has stirred up a hornet’s nest with his sarcastic tweets, as the city’s civic authority on Monday filed a complaint against Sharma for carrying out unauthorised alterations at his Oshiwara apartment. The state officials even concluded that he had illegally extended his Versova bungalow thus destroying Mangrove plantations in the process.

It all seems to be getting beyond a joke for the comedian whose tweets on corruption have exposed his own apparent disregard for civic rules.

Kapil’s double standards have also attracted a lot of political ire and unwanted attention. The MNS filed a police complaint against Sharma for being party to a crime and not reporting it, while Samajwadi Party corporator, Rais Shaikh sent a legal notice to the comedian demanding him to give the name of the BMC official who demanded a bribe from him. BJP leader Ram Kadam even led a morcha to his Oshiwara residence but was stopped by the police at the right time.

Kapil Sharma became an overnight sensation after his ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ went on air three years ago on Colors. Earlier this year he shifted his show to Sony and reportedly gets a new pay package of a whopping Rs 80 lakhs an episode. Last year Kapil even made his Bollywood debut with Abbas Mustan’s ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu’, the film was a commercial as well as a critical success. Let’s all hope that the talented comedian gets out of all this mess and is back with entertaining his fans.
