Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, which completes four years today, managed to rake in the moolah despite a predictable story-line and done-to-death love conflicts. So what actually made the film click? The answer lies in the chemistry between the leads, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Back in 2014, they both were just a few films old but still had the charisma and the charm to pull-in the crowd and make everyone root for them. So when they quarrel, we are supposed to be joyed, when they romance, we are supposed to feel and when they cry together, we are expected to shed a few tears as well.
And another reason behind the film’s success lies in the fact that both Varun and Alia have a diametrically different fan-following. If Varun is the man of the masses, albeit often criticized for aping Govinda and Salman Khan, Alia is the multiplexes’ favorite, and with films like Highway, Dear Zindagi and Raazi, she has truly carved a niche for herself. So when two opposite forces unite to give us an entertaining cinematic experience, how can the film not connect?
And the same can also be said about their next outing, Badrinath Ki Dulhania. However, this time the scenario was different and stalking, deceit and women empowerment were also thrown into the picture. So which film was more entertaining, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania or Badrinath Ki Dulhania? We’ll leave that on you!
