BHARAT: Is Salman Khan’s character being made more heroic?

Salman Khan sets the cash registers ringing the moment he portrays a larger-than-life and an unabashedly badass character. From Wanted to Dabangg to Ek Tha Tiger to Sultan, we have so many examples. But the moment his character is infused with vulnerability and realism, the film tanks. (Bajrangi Bhaijaan is an exception) Films like Kyon Ki, Phir Milenge and Tubelight come to mind immediately.

It seems after the debacle of Tubelight, Salman doesn’t want to take a second chance by compromising with his heroic on-screen persona and has asked Ali Abbas Zafar to make some changes in the script. As we all know, Bharat is inspired by the Korean drama, An Ode To My Father, and in that film, the hero loses one of his legs in a tragic incident. This film is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pak partition, but it seems Salman isn’t keen to play a physically challenged character as it may keep his fans away from the cinemas.

Hope this film doesn’t turn out to be another Race 3!
