Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan may have been welcomed by the critics as well as the audiences with rave reviews, but it has also brought along its fair share of controversies. Do you remember when was the last time an Anurag Kashyap directorial wasn’t surrounded by them? Anyway, there’s a scene in the film where Abhishek Bachchan’s character opens up his turban and begins to smoke. This particular instance hasn’t gone down very well with the Sikh Community. They have decided to take legal action against Kashyap and a petition has been filed in the Jammu & Kashmir High Court.
Not only that, the Sikh Sangat of Ambala gathered at their Gurudwara to protest against the film’s screening. The Sikh Community released a statement that said, “The filmmakers have not only hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs, but they have also made an attempt to distort the Sikh principles. This is not the first time when a film is attacking the Sikh identity, earlier as well there have been films which have targeted the Sikhs. We will strongly oppose the screening of the film in our area, we urge the Sikhs worldwide to unite and stand against this film.”
Seeing the matter intensify, Anurag released a statement on his Twitter timeline, have a look right here:-
