As the nation immerses itself in celebrating Teachers’ Day and thanking all the professors and teachers out there for shaping up their future and giving their blood and sweat to make them reach where they are today, we revisit some of the most iconic on-screen teachers of Bollywood:-
1. Aamir Khan- Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Given the fact that his character of Ram Shankar Nikumbh was an Arts Teacher, he had to brim with creativity and wild imaginations. With an uber-cool hairstyle and meticulous understanding of human emotions, he was someone every educational institution needed. Ishaan, played by Darsheel Safary, was distraught after being packed off to a hostel and his encounter with Ram left the door ajar for a major metamorphosis in his identity. Ram’s charming and whimsical ways to resuscitate the artist inside Ishaan gave us an inspirational story for the ages!
2. Shah Rukh Khan- Chak De! India (2007)
SRK’s Kabir Khan was a man of a few words, but exploded like a volcano at the slightest of imperfection or disunity. Internalizing his emotions and delivering a marvelously restrained performance, his teachings and speeches, especially that iconic monologue, made him a coach whose traits deserve to be adapted in real life.
3. Amitabh Bachchan- Black (2005)
Debraj Sahai’s structure was as eccentric as his own personality. He mentors Michelle, a blind, deaf and mute girl, but his teachings are far from heartwarming. On the contrary, a lot of us may scoff and squirm with discomfort looking at the way he trains the girl for the next years of her and his life. But still, Black still remains a brave attempt and Bachchan’s best in recent years.
4. Sushmita Sen-Main Hoon Na (2004)
Chandni could charm anyone with her smoldering persona and scorching presence and make sure at least all the boys had full attendance in college. She was a Chemistry teacher in Farah Khan’s directorial debut but we never saw how she taught the subject. We, instead witnessed SRK being totally charmed by her aura and panache. It was a love story that echoed the desires of millions of students across the world but also elicited laughter and entertainment.
5. Salman Khan-Partner (2007)
A yet another hatke teacher was Prem from David Dhawan’s Partner, where Bhai played a Love Guru who unites two souls or helps helpless and hapless love-struck fellas get the girls of their dreams. He believes style and scintillation can be taught but simplicity cannot. All his gyaan to Govinda may have turned out to be futile as he ends up wooing Katrina with all the things he was asked not to do, but at least for true lovers in real life, we can imbibe some of them, right?
