Since the day Sanju, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer film that is based on the enigmatic life of Sanjay Dutt went on floors, we were having a hard time with posturizing RK Junior as the original rock star of Bollywood. However, although we were somewhat convinced about Ranbir being able to pull off Dutt in his early years, we were really concerned about how would the man match Dutt’s sheer physicality that he built over the years in such a short span of time.
But, then came the transformation, the leaked pictures from the sets and finally, the TEASER that convinced us that RK Jr. here can slip into any part like a glove.
But, apart from its leading man and the patented Kapoor-like charm that he will bring to the film, we have five more reasons to be excited about the Rajkumar Hirani directorial.
Six Shades of Ranbir Kapoor’s Dutt!
The teaser itself showed us the six phases of life through which we have known Dutt has gone through. A tussle with narcotics, a jail incarceration early on in his career, his bounce back as a muscular man, his days of playing super-intense gangster-like parts, his Munnabhai days and life post his most recent jail sentence. All in one frame!
A Rajkumar Hirani directorial
Rajkumar Hirani has a penchant of taking the most moving and sensitive subjects that one can think of and prepare it for the screen in a way that is light-hearted, humorous, palatable and most of all, a visual treat! So, expect nothing less from our man Hirani here again!
Since the day Sanju’s leading man, Kapoor has described this film to be something that belongs more to the sci-fi genre than that of a biographical drama. From that day on, the hype for us at least built itself!
A brutally honest account of Sanju’s life!
Biopics, in general, are made with a motive of humanizing the protagonists, who is more often than not, is shown as a victim of circumstances. But, Sanju here is touted to be a no-holds-barred and an unbelievably audacious account of one of the most controversial lives that we have known of an actor having till date. To quote Ranbir from one of his most famous interviews post the announcement of the film, he said, “I can’t imagine and believe how much can a man go through hell in one life. He has paid for his deeds, made mistakes and got everything in this life.”. Also, if memory serves us right, he recounted on how he learned a few astonishing facts about Sanjay that he had no idea about before the filming began, even though Kapoor had known Sanju baba since his childhood days. Ah. A classic case of things that elders don’t want you to know about them, I guess!
A power-packed ensemble cast!
A film is never a one-man show. It’s a team effort. As important are the crew members and the technicians who work on the product day and night, it’s important to even cast the right kind of people and not just in terms of physicality, but even in terms of their proficiency in their craft, their dedication and the kind of environment they bring on the shoot location. Sanju, in particular, has Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Jim Sarbh, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor and Karishma Tanna to say a few. Need I say more?
