Gold Review: Akshay Kumar & team, take a bow!

Rating: 4/5 stars

Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated biographical sports drama, Gold, is one film that we had been waiting for ever since it went on floors. This visually stunning sports drama traces the journey of that legendary Indian hockey team that brought to free India its first Olympic Gold medal under the guidance of an ambitious manager.

Our thoughts on Gold? It would be safe to say that should there ever be an Olympic-like event for films, team Gold would walk out with a Gold medal hands down!

Here are five reasons that make Gold a winner!

Akshay Kumar!

Gold

In Gold, Akshay Kumar could be seen at his quirky and lovable best as Tapan Das, a quirky, idiosyncratic and nation-loving manager! Akshay’s Tapan may not come across as likable as an individual but you can’t help but root for him because Akshay’s Tapan is full of heart.

Mouni Roy & team!

Gold

In line with the trend of writing strong female characters, Mouni gets a fairly important character to play, which she executes with utmost perfection! As far as the rest of the dream team goes, every individual has given the best performance of their career to date.

It will awaken the inner patriot in you!

Gold

Reema Kagti’s Gold has many instances and lines that will stir up the deep-seated patriot that resides in the viewers almost automatically. Once you walk out of the auditorium after seeing Kagti’s spectacular recreation of the historic moment, you will be more proud than ever about the fact that you’re an Indian/part of India.

Visually stunning!

Gold

We sincerely have to thank Reema Kagti for having the kind of vision that she had for Gold, which she brought to life with the help of her cinematographer Alvaro Gutierrez. This film is a masterclass for a lot of people due to many reasons.

Outstanding musical scores!

Gold

From the chest-thumping anthem Ghar Layenge Gold to the soothing Monobina, and from the fun-filled Chad Gayi Hai to the romantic Naino Ne Bandhi, musical maestros Sachin-Jigar have done it right. Thank you Daler Mehendi, Arko Da, Tanishk Bagchi and Vishal Dadlani for your priceless contributions to this period sports drama.
