Kangana Ranaut REACTS to the Manikarnika controversy!

It has almost become a notion nowadays for period films to end up in a controversy, simply because the history that we know of is via books and scriptures, and NO ONE really knows what happened during the relevant time period for sure. The latest actress who has faced the brunt of this is Kangana Ranaut, whose upcoming period film, Manikarnika, is being accused of distorting historical facts by allegedly displaying a romantic sequence between Rani Laxmibai and a British officer.

Speaking about the same, the on-screen Queen finally opened up about the issue by saying that she is hurt by the baseless allegations and the writer, who has himself named his daughter Manikarnika, would never think of doing anything of that sort.

On the other hand, the writer  “No need to worry about it as I have portrayed her in the most respectable way. She is a warrior who fought against the British. She is my favourite woman leader. I have grown up reading about her. So, I will always portray her in an inspirational way.”

To which, he added, “The film’s title is Manikarnika, because it is her name! Her parents named her that because she was born in Kasi and the Manikarnika Ghat there is very famous. Even I named my daughter Manikarnika, so you now know how much I respect Rani Lakshmibai.”

On the other hand, the producer of the film, Kamal Jain issued an official clarification on the issue, which read, “As responsible filmmakers, we have taken utmost care while portraying Rani Lakshmi-bai’s character and have consulted historians and scholars. Rani Lakshmibai was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leaders that our country has seen. She is a symbol of valor and the film’s story depicts the same.”

Well, we hope that this helps in getting the issue out of the way.
