I am ashamed of Karan Johar: Mohd Rafi’s son accuses KJo of insulting his father

‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ made headlines for all the wrong reasons before its release. Now that the film has finally released and is doing pretty well at the box office, there is someone who is unhappy, not only with the film, but also with its helmer, Karan Johar. Mohd Rafi’s son, Shahid Rafi has accused KJo of insulting his father, the legendary singer in his latest release and has also demanded a written apology.

But what is the story? How did Karan Johar insult the legendary singer? For those who are yet to watch the film, we’d like to inform that there is a dialogue in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,’ where Anushka Sharma says, “Mohd Rafi gaate nahi, rote the” (Mohammed Rafi used to cry, not sing).

This obviously didn’t go down too well with the late singer’s son, who reacted, “This is so insulting. I am ashamed of Karan Johar. I didn’t expect this from him at all. My dad has sung songs for Karan’s father (Yash Johar) and this is what he has done now. I haven’t seen the film yet. But whoever has written this dialogue is an idiot. He doesn’t know who Rafi saab was. He was the most versatile singer. How can he write such crap about a legendary singer?” Extremely upset with the scenario, Shahid also expects KJo to apologise. He said, “The damage has been done. So many people have watched the film. I don’t think he is even going to edit that part. All I expect from Karan is an apology letter from him.”

Mohd Rafi had lent his voice to numbers like ‘Mere dost qissa yeh kiya’ and ‘Salamat rahe dostana’ in the 1980 film Dostana, which was produced by Karan Johar’s father, Yash Johar.
