Hichki rates highest among female centric films on TV!

After having won hearts of audiences with its moving and soul touching story, the superhit Hichki has also become a huge winner on television. The story revolving around the journey of a woman who turns her weakness into her biggest strength was aired recently on Sony TV and it rated higher than any other women-centric film since the time BARC came into industry usage to derive rating points.

Neeraj Vyas, EVP & Business Head Movies & Music Cluster & Channel SAB, Sony Pictures Network said, “This just goes to show that when a movie is crafted with smart relevant intent and a balanced dose of entertainment, viewers enjoy it the most”.

Siddharth P Malhotra, director of Hichki added, “It is very heartening for me to know that Hichki rates highest amongst female-centric films on TV because as a filmmaker and a writer, just to make this film is a huge success. I went to every actor and production house but except Yash Raj Films, everybody was asking me why to make a film on Tourette syndrome based on a teacher’s life. With Hichki we challenged various norms like it being a female-centric film, an issue based film which spoke about syndrome which not many were aware of and an actress coming back on screen post maternity. Adi, Rani, Maneesh, my DOP Avinash, the entire team and me went with the hope that we have made an honest film and hopefully that honesty will connect with the audiences. It is extremely hearting to see how it has resonated with the audiences and even more heartening to know that it has rated so well on television as I am a TV guy and this is a medium for a huge audience.”

The story of an aspiring teacher played by Rani Mukerji who suffers from Tourette syndrome received unanimous love and support when it had hit theatres in March this year. Hichki also recently received a standing ovation at the prestigious Shanghai International Film Festival with audiences in China believing that Rani was actually an actor who had Tourette syndrome.

Directed by Siddharth Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma, with Rani Mukerji in the lead Hichki was aired on Sony on 26th May.
