Is Half Girlfriend really worth the wait?

Half Girlfriend is right around the corner! But is the patience going to pay off? Find out right here

Once again, we are going to be eye-witnesses to an another film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel with Half Girlfriend, the release of which is right around the corner. The film is going to feature Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. We can’t help but ask ourselves, is this movie worth all the hype that the makers are creating around it? If you’d ask us, we’d come up with a big NO!

But first, for those who have NO CLUE about the storyline, here’s a brief for you all:

The book talks about a very complex yet mildly relatable love story of two youngsters Madhav Jha and Riya Somani. Jha is a boy from Bihar who struggles with his English speaking skills but somehow manages to land a seat in Delhi’s prestigious St. Stephen’s college via sports quota since he is a good basketball player. On the other hand, Riya Somani, a well-read girl from an affluent family in Delhi, also makes it to the list due to her proficiency in the sport. The association with Basketball gets both of them close and in turn, Madhav falls for Riya (Duh!), but Riya doesn’t agree to be more than a “Half Girlfriend” to Madhav. Madhav demands to get physical with an ultimatum which became the highlight of the book (Deti hai to de, warna katle). Naturally, Riya parts ways with Madhav and marries her childhood friend Rohan and settle in London a year later. After a series of twists and turns and ups and downs, the two end up being together as the story concludes.

Let’s begin with the storyline of the book, which has the typical Bollywood masala added to it and seems like the book was solely written so that one fine day it can be turned into a movie. If you don’t believe us, you can look up the reviews on the net!

Now, let’s review both the lead characters a bit in detail:

1)Arjun Kapoor as Madhav Jha

Right from the first teaser, we found it very difficult to find Arjun Kapoor’s character authentic. Seems like all the effort that he had put in hasn’t paid off one bit!

2) Shraddha Kapoor as Riya Somani

Coming to the female lead, we believe that the makers should have stuck to their first choice of Kriti Sanon as Riya Somani for the film. Irrespective of the storyline, we believed that Sanon would do a fabulous job as the rich and affluent Riya.

Shraddha Kapoor being the final choice for the female lead was an unpleasant surprise, as we believe that she is perfect for girl-next-door kind of parts, but we kept calm. But, when we saw the trailer, we were unimpressed! She, unfortunately, proved us right! We are in hopes that there is more than what meets the eye.

Long story short, we don’t believe that the movie will succeed, but will be happy to be proven wrong.
