Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate inspires Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra, who produced the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Marathi film, Ventilator, is all set to produce another film in the language. The film is titled Paani and went on floors on the 10th of May, 2018. It’s being directed by actor-filmmaker, Adinath Kothare. Paani is based on the real life story of Hanumant Kendre from Nagdarwadi village in the Nanded district.

Hanumant Kendre was discovered by the filmmaker on Aamir Khan’s show, Satyamev Jayate, which inspired the director to helm a film on the subject of water and source him as his inspiration. To know who Hanumant Kendre is, have a look at what Adinath had to say about the man, “I was really moved once I heard about his struggle, during his interview. His water harvesting initiative and relentless effort to save his village was awe inspiring and I just knew that I had to share his story with the world. I was sure that if a global issue such as this would be portrayed in an art form, people won’t just understand it but would also connect with it strongly.”

When asked how did he get in touch with the man, Adinath stated, “He was not easily traceable, I, then, got the number of the police station in charge of his village and finally connected with Hanumant. I called him for an interview and that’s how the journey began four years ago. Hanumant has his own mineral water plant and even supplies to some of the nearby villages. I have seen people walking miles each day for water but now they will have water supply all year round.”

Once the script was completely prepared by the writer Nitin Dixit, Priyanka Chopra and her mother Madhu Chopra came on board, by the recommendation of Rashmi Kulkarni, the creative producer of Priyanka’s production house, Purple Pebble Pictures.

Given the film’s unique and brave subject, let’s see whether this film can recreate the magic of Priyanka’s last Marathi venture, Ventilator or not.
