Not just Deepika and Kjo, Hrithik suffered from depression too!

While we’re so taken up with the glitz, glam and perfection of Bollywood superstars, we sometimes fail to identify them as human beings. Human beings who go through everyday life issues like we do, and sometimes even worse. After Deepika Padukone and Karan Johar, Bollywood Superstar Hrithik Roshan opens up about his depression in complete honesty. The 42 year old actor spoke about his experience battling this critical issue at the launch of M Power’s ‘Everyday Heroes’ – a campaign which encourages people to accept and deal with mental illness in the right way.

Hrithik says, “We all go through ups and downs. The ups are important, the downs are important because you evolve through both of them. When you go through a down then the most important thing is clarity of thought. Sometimes your brain takes over, feeds you with unwanted thoughts. That’s the time you need objectivity, a third or second person to look at you and say ‘this is what is happening to you’.”

Because of the “log kya kahenge” stigma, we often downplay mental health, we treat it as if it is the last of our concerns, but here Hrithik puts across an essential point with great objectivity.

He further adds, “Why, when we are suffering from stomach or kidney problem, we are so cool and casual about it? Why when we have a problem with a brain, which is also an organ, we get scared and feel as if it is our fault and we need to hide it from people. Everybody at some point of life is going to go through some mental issue.” – Touché, sir!

Although Hrithik looked considerably weighed down and weak at this event, his major courage in opening up about his personal issues is truly commendable. All we hope is that the depression wasn’t the cause for the running down of his always muscular body.
