Amitabh Bachchan birthday special: 6 films which show that he was destined for stardom!

BIRTHDAY SPECIAL: From Deewar to Sholay, here are six films through which Amitabh Bachchan will live forever!

Not many know that at the beginning of his career, one of the few things that megastar Amitabh Bachchan was reportedly ridiculed for was his baritone voice, which, interestingly, one day became the VOICE OF THE NATION! Haters are gonna hate, you see!

Apart from his deep and most widely mimicked voice, what really still stands out was the legendary acting skills that the man had come endowed with.

On the occasion of his 75th birthday (Yes, you read that right! Let that sink in and feel old), we bring you the five best performances of the megastar that silently redefined Indian cinema.

  • Deewar

The intriguing story of two brothers divided by circumstances but conspired to go head-on against each other by fate was perhaps the film which had written Amitabh Bachchan’s imminent rise to stardom in stone. The film is still relished by families and generations too. We have one request to the whole of Bollywood: Please, NEVER make a remake of this film as you will NEVER be able to aptly cast Bachchan!

  • Agneepath

Here, Mr. Bachchan posed as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and till date, we cannot see anyone who would be so comfortable in that role. His body language, dialogue delivery and of course, his voice is what makes the performance so memorable. Who can forget the scene as to how he introduced himself in one of the iconic scenes from the film?

  • Sharaabi

If you want an acting class for free, you have to check out Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of a constantly drunk rich man in the film Sharaabi. Contrary to the popular belief back then, the legendary actor isn’t a drinker at all and did not even taste a single drop of alcohol for the film. That’s a slap in the face of those who believe that you must use alcohol or drugs to play an addict on screen!

  • Don

Before Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan was the man who made the part of an antagonist look cool with his cult flick Don. Also, the film also can teach anyone as to how to pull off a double role as he managed to convincingly play the two distinct characters of the dreaded but stylish Don and the simpleton Vijay. Trust Big.B to do something like that!

  • Shahenshah

Although the film had mixed reviews back in 1988, one cannot deny the commendable effort he had put into playing India’s first vigilante who was living a double life way before Shaktiman started ruling our small screens. The film, regardless of its fate at the box office, is truly one of the gems that Bachchan Sahib has given us!

  • Sholay

Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay featuring Dharmendra and, of course, our birthday man, is a film which silently redefined friendship and how. This film cannot be praised enough and its box office collections do all the talking. After adjusting for inflation, the total collections of the film stand at something close to 1400 CRORES! In a way, the film was India’s first unsung Baahubali too.

If you think he is done with experimenting and reinventing himself as he is inching closer to the age of 80, wait till you see him in films like 102 Not Out and Thugs Of Hindostan. AB Sr. is coming back yet again to deliver a slap on your faces!

Here’s wishing the Bachchan of Bollywood a very happy birthday!

Oh, and fun fact, he’s not celebrating his birth anniversary this year.
