7 Years Of ZNMD- Decoding Hrithik, Katrina and the other characters

Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara clocks in seven years today. Since every character in this cult film had a lasting impression on us, let’s decode who represented what:-

Arjun- Hrithik Roshan

Arjun is a perpetually solemn-faced financial broker who derives happiness from fat pay-cheques. Losing his father at an early age, he quickly understood the importance of money and how it’s the be all and the end all of life. However, his encounter and subsequent relationship with Laila (Katrina Kaif) transforms him into the very same guy who was once adored for his humor and frolicking back in his college days. There are a lot of Arjuns even today, trapped in a box and wanting to break free. But how many of them actually get their Lailas?

Laila- Katrina Kaif

Laila is what Arjun describes as a free-bird, who believes in seizing the moment and give a damn about the future! She becomes the shining light in Arjun’s inner darkness and discovers the emotional side to his otherwise stone-faced persona. We all need one such shine in our lives as well, don’t we?

Imran- Farhan Akhtar

Imran is a bundle of diverse emotions. He wants to be funny all the time but deep down is still grappling with the reality of his father. But this character never allows the stark truth of his life to overpower his nonchalance. And we all need to learn this trait from him.

Kabir- Abhay Deol

Kabir is one character that’s right there in between the personas of Arjun and Imran. On one hand, he has the best time of his life with his best friends but on the other hand, is dealing with a constant nagging and over-possessive fiancée, Natasha. But he’s the one who strengthens the bond between Arjun and Imran, albeit breaking his own bond with the very girl he once loved.

Natasha- Kalki Koechlin

An independent, fun-loving interior designer immediately becomes the believer of Do Jism Ek Jaan as she’s engaged to Kabir, and all hell breaks loose for the poor guy. Such is the extent of her insecurities that she lands up at his bachelor party and wreaks havoc. But by the time she realizes she was wrong all the time, it’s too late. Although her character bordered slightly on the villainy, I really felt sad for her in the end.
