Over the years Bollywood has paid tribute to a lot of our super heroes and freedom fighters who have worked the independence of our Country. The movies have given us a perfect patriotic feel in them. The movies have had a perfect touch of entertainment and patriotic feel in it. Filmmakers have shown the story and struggle from the pre-independence period to the struggle the country is facing with terrorism and corruption.

Here’s a list of 5 Bollywood movies you should watch on this 71st Independence Day.

Mother India

Mother India is the perfect example of the struggle and shows the condition of women in this country. Starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, and Raaj Kumar the film shows the struggle of a woman in a village and the hardship she goes through to raise her two sons against all odds of the society. Mother India is one of the best movies ever made in the history of Indian cinema. The film was the first Indian film to be submitted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1958.


Directed by J. P. Dutta Border is based on the 1971 war which took place between India and Pakistan. The film showed the struggle of the Indian soldiers and their families. Starring Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Pooja Bhatt, Tabu, and Rakhi the film was loved and appreciated by many. The film surely indulges a strong sense of patriotism with every Indian.


The list of patriotic movies cannot be completed without including Aamir Khan‘s award winning film Lagaan in it. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker the story revolves around a small village whose citizens are burdened by high taxes in the British Raj. The story goes forward when a handful of villagers learn cricket and face the Britishers with a promise of getting rid of high taxes (Lagaan). The film was the biggest hit of 2001 and was even appreciated in various International Awards.

Rang De Basanti       

Rang De Basanti was a perfect tale of freedom which connected with the youth of India. The film was based on five young carefree college student who filmed a documentary on Bhagat Singh by a British. Their life takes a U-turn when their friend dies in a fighter aircraft crash. The story then deals with how they struggle against the corrupt officials of the government. The film surely made a huge impact on the Indian society.


There is no doubt in saying that the Akshay Kumar starrer Baby is a new age patriotic story. The 2015 Neeraj Pandey film was a mirror of the terrorism which is happening in today’s India. The film has Akshay Kumar as an undercover agent and his team ‘Baby‘ fighting against to eliminate terrorists who are looking forward to attacking India.
